Results of Product Testing

This bar chart shows that all the people who watched my animated music video liked it. All eight people had said yes to these because they all liked my animated if there were any people who said no to the question that I asked them, the results would be completely poor and I would have to start the project all over again until I get more responses for the 'yes' bit of the questions.

This bar chart shows that there have been responses for the legibility and the layout than the colour scheme itself. Five responses were for the legibility, four were for how my animated music video was laid out, and finally there were only two responses for the colour scheme I have incorporated. As I have seen earlier, one person liked all three, but another person liked both the colour and the layout.

Next time I make another animated music video, I could try and cut down on the lyrics as they are far too unnecessary for some scenes, as well as improving the sound quality with music properly imported from the CD, and I could also consider mixing it with video footage and scenes at different angles, like the Video Installation work I have done in previous units.

More Art Techniques

Here is this car (SSC Ultimate Aero TT) I have rotoscoped in Photoshop. I used the brush tool to draw the outline of the car and the paint bucket to fill it with colour. Then I closed any gaps which have been left behind with the brush tool.

These are some of the stamps I have designed in another unit. I have used Photoshop and Illustrator to add filters to the images, include perforations as well as the queen's head.

This is one of my FMP's characters (the farmer) designed in Illustrator. Firstly, I drew the image on paper, and after I scanned it in, I traced it in Illustrator.

Flash Animation Techniques (Info from written sources)

This animation technique teaches you how to animate vector illustration in Flash. It is where you use the Pen tool to trace a hand drawn drawing which has been done on paper.

This was found at http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flashcs3/flash_vector_illustration.htm (Date accessed - 29/06/2011)

This animation technique teaches you how to add Tweens for when to move certain objects. Firstly, an image is added to the frame. Secondly, more frames were added, followed by the inclusion of the motion tween. Then the image is moved around at different frames.

This was found at http://www.entheosweb.com/Flash/motion_tween.asp (Date accessed - 29/06/2011)

This animation technique teaches you how to create a basic MX animation with some simple instructions. This began with a new Flash MX document. Firstly, the properties option was opened up. Secondly, the document had to be resized and the frame rate had to be increased. Then when the document was saved and played, the results showed that the Flash MX logo was moving 25 rates per second to the right.

This was found at http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/basic_animation.htm (Date accessed - 29/06/2011)

These were all found on the WebsiteTips.com website (Date accessed - 29/06/2011)
when I tried Google' search engine in order to find animation techniques.

Music Video Lyrics Ideas

This is where I generated my ideas from the music video's lyrics as shown below.

Proposal

Here is the proposal I presented earlier during the project.

The resulting conclusion to the proposal turned out that I had good explanation of the information of what I am going to do and the overview of my story, equipment needed, time management and my target audience, as well as containing good research with references. But to improve this next time, I would speak more slowly and clearly, cut down on the writing, as well as trying to avoid reading from the screen.

Evening

I continued adding what is needed in my blog.

Why a Design Brief is important

A design brief is very important to the practitioner and his/her client because if they both do not have a brief, the client will not know what the practitioner is doing in the relevant project. The three following reasons from a bad brief are:

1) The brief may be very tight.
2) The client will not give you the relevant information needed beyond the size of the appropriate document, and (s) he may not know what the practitioner will be up to at this moment.
3) Second hand brief.
4) High expectations, but poor budget/deadline.
5) The brief may change at different times.
6) The information may be too contradicting, making not one, but two project briefs at the same time.
7) Too many options to choose from.

The following requirements needed for a better brief are:

1) Information about the company. The more you have, the better your product will look when assembled.
2) Budget.
3) Project message/theme.
4) Who their competitors are.
5) Where the corporate guidelines have been included.
6) Target audience/Market.
7) Tech spec.
8) Needs to look and feel required.
9) Deadline.
10) Expectations.
11) Good examples of previous projects they have done before.

Project Evaluation

The purpose of this brief was to design a digital media product for a chosen client.

I have researched different music videos which were designed in Adobe Flash and different artists' work, and I have also started designing my music video's main characters and different backgrounds on paper as well as rotoscoping them in Adobe Illustrator. I think that there should have been more Adobe Flash music videos in the future, so that I know that I could get more ideas as soon as possible.

I used Adobe Flash to design my final product, and whilst I was doing this, I separated the body parts from my characters and moved them around in motion Tweens. I have also added imaginations that will fit in the thinking bubble.

Once I had completed this music video, I posted it on YouTube, and embedded it in one of my blog's posts.

I have enjoyed the character design section of the project because I drew my characters on paper and scanned them, and after this I traced them in Illustrator.

I think that my music video is quite appealing to the relevant target audience, even though the thinking bubble scenes are a bit too long for their likes.

If I were to improve this next time, I could add more colours to my background. I could also amend the thinking bubble scenes as they seem a bit too long.

Animated Music Video

Here is my finished animated music video.

I have used motion Tweens to move the body parts around at different frames as well as the pen tool to trace my characters and backgrounds.

Characters and Backgrounds

This is the farmer, who will be the animated music video's main character. His farm has been ruined by a flock of birds and he tries to gain advice when a thinking bubble (see below) appears.

This is the "thinking bubble" who will be the farmer's mentor. The "thinking bubble" gives the farmer some advice to get his life back on track.

This is the background for the farmer's farm. In the music video, the flock of birds have ruined this farm.

This is a digitised version of my farm background designed in Illustrator.

Storyboards

Here are some storyboards I have designed for my final major project.

This is a digitised version of my storyboard. It is about a farmer who is bored because his farm garden has been ruined by flocks of birds. His thinking bubble arrives to give him advice and help him get back on track.

Here is a paper-based version of my storyboard. It is about a farmer who is bored because his farm garden has been ruined by flocks of birds. His thinking bubble arrives to give him advice and help him get back on track.

Here is another paper-based version of my storyboard. It is about a man who is bored because his garden has been ruined by flocks of birds. His thinking bubble arrives to give him advice and help him get back on track.

This is the third paper-based version of my storyboard. It is about a man who is bored because his garden has been ruined by flocks of birds. His thinking bubble arrives to give him advice about modern life and help him get back on track.

Overall, I mostly like the digitised storyboard because I used more colour on it, and it is very clear to read.

Morning

I have continued with my project proposal.

Evening

I have presented my project proposal to the entire class, except some of my classmates are absent. The resulting conclusion turned out that I had good explanation of the information of what I am going to do and the overview of my story, equipment needed, time management and my target audience, as well as containing good research with references. But to improve this next time, I would speak more slowly and clearly, cut down on the writing, as well as trying to avoid reading from the screen.

Then, I decided to draw a storyboard.

Adobe Flash music videos research

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzapkiiKJko (Date accessed - 18/05/2011)

The colours used in this Flash music video are different greens and browns for the forest, and pink for the woman’s dress, and these colours suit the story.

The story is about a young woman who is singing whilst in the forest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMaWz0M5uk4 (Date accessed - 18/05/2011)

The colours used in this Flash music video are different colours that relate to the ocean and the fish. The colours of the fish are accurate.

The reason I like this is because at the end of the music video, it shows more sympathy for one of the two fish.

The story is about two fish who have a relationship with each other.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvMugqLyeSE (Date accessed - 18/05/2011)

The colours used in this Flash music video are red and yellow for the two birds, blue sky, green grass and brown poles. These colours fit the story.

The reason I like this is because it has speech bubbles to show the two birds talking.

The story is about two birds who have a conversation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUSQx3TkLow (Date accessed - 18/05/2011)

The colours used in this music video are plain white, as well as other colours later in the video.

The reason I like this is because it has text in different frames.

The story is about modern life in the present.

These videos were all found on the YouTube channel when I was trying to look for music videos designed in Adobe Flash.

18/05/2011

Morning

I have researched what a Manifesto is about, written what I would do in my project proposal and researched four music videos designed in Flash as well as my Photoshop drawing skills.

Evening

I have started my project proposal.

Thursday, 12 May 2011

12/05/2011

Morning

I have watched a presentation of what makes a good questionnaire and a bad questionnaire. Bad questionnaires occur when an introduction or some questions or both do not make sense, or the layouts of the answers are wrong i.e. no tick boxes.

Here is one example of a bad questionnaire. The layouts to all answers are wrong e.g. no tick boxes, and some questions i.e. Questions 2, 4, 6 and 8 do not make sense.

This is a good example of a questionnaire. It has a proper introduction, the layouts of the answers are more appropriate and the questions make sense and relate to its theme.

Evening

I have added some colour to last week’s Photoshop rotoscope.

11/05/2011 Research day

I have started to do some research for my final major project.

This was done by David Firth. I like the way he designed his work because it shakes on different frames, and this makes it eerie. I could create some work similar to this by rotoscoping the characters I am going to draw in Flash.

This was done by Quentin Blake for a Roald Dahl book. I like the way it was drawn because it is commonly used in stop frames. I could create some work similar to this by posing the characters on different frames in Flash.

This was done by Walt Disney. I like the way Walt Disney designed this because it is a very old cartoon in black and white, before colour came of age. Sometimes, it is jolty and not very smooth. I could create some work similar to this by rotoscoping the characters and adding proper colour to them.

This was done by Nizlopi. I like the way it was designed because it looks like the characters were moving on lined paper. I could create some similar work to this by using lined paper as a background to the project I am going to do.

05/05/2011

Morning

I have watched a PowerPoint presentation about what makes a positive project brief and what makes a negative project brief, and why it would be the case for the client and practitioner.

I also had to make some useful notes, as doing so could definitely help me keep track of the good and bad points during the presentation.

Evening

I have practiced some rotoscoping of different images in Photoshop.

04/05/2011

Morning

I have researched different projects and clients for my final major project in a group. I then discussed what project I would be doing.

Evening

Research in Media Industries – Types of Research

Secondary research is things that already exist. Examples of these are books, magazines, journals and of course, the Internet.

Primary research is first hand research. Examples of this are questionnaires, tests, interviews, experiments and so on.

Quantitative research is asking specific questions to a group of people. Examples of these are YES/NO, multiple choices and a scale of 1–5.

Qualitative research is where there are no restrictions to the answers you have been looking for. Examples of these are getting people to write down their thoughts rather than asking specific questions as well as making notes while a group of people is discussing your idea.

You must research a media product because it will generate your ideas for the final product you are going to design, so that it will fit the target audience’s purpose.

If you do not research the specific media product, your target audience will not know what you have done to the media product.

I have also designed a questionnaire to reveal what the most popular type of media was in history.

11/05/2011

Morning

I have started a blog for my Final Major Project. I then decided to research different artists and animated music videos.

Evening

I have taken count of the answers in the completed questionnaires, which I had designed as a group. I then presented the results in a pie chart and a bar chart, and concluded which multimedia device is owned by a majority of people.
